The Stimulus Logo: Artwork by Caroline Nguyen

The Stimulus Logo, featured currently throughout our website, was designed and created by Caroline Nguyen, UTA Biology student and External Affairs officer of the pending UTA Organization, Mavericks for Medical Humanities.

Caroline sent the logo idea to our editing team shortly after the name of our journal, Stimulus, was announced during a club meeting in early 2021. When asked how the idea for the logo came about, she sent us the following:

"When Karyssa and Thu announced that the Medical Humanities Journal is going to be called Stimulus, I had an idea right away for their logo. A stimulus is something that sparks a reaction, and the things that popped up in my head when I heard that were the sun, the moon, and the clouds. I thought of these elements because they have assisted life on Earth for billions of years. The sun provides the Earth with heat, light, and energy, and without the sun, life could not exist. The moon lights up the dark night sky and controls the tides, which have guided humans for thousands of years. Lastly, I thought of clouds because they can symbolize many things. White clouds are associated with positive feelings, while dark clouds are associated with negative feelings. I thought these three elements tie in nicely with the title of the journal because all of them stimulate processes of life, and they cannot function without one or the other."

We found it both ironic and incredibly fitting that the name, "Stimulus," quite literally stimulated Caroline to create such a beautiful logo after being completely unprompted otherwise. Her logo perfectly encompasses our mission and vision for the journal, and this effect is deepened by her wonderful explanation of its elements. It is a testament to both the journal itself and the name that we chose: to cause a response, to create a reaction, and to inspire others!

We are so grateful for Caroline's outstanding artwork and for her beautiful explanation of the components of the logo. We hope to see her logo featured in each of the many editions of the journal to come!
